For those of you who don't know, when you receive a Masters in any discipline you get "hooded." Basically meaning that a professor from your department puts an individual hood around your neck after you're handed your diploma. Each hood is a different color depending on what area your degree is in, music gets the distinct honor of being pink (or salmon if you prefer). Despite the color I was really looking forward to the "hooding" during my Masters graduation ceremony.
This all stems from days before heating was standard or even possible in universities and professors had to wear a good deal of clothes, including the robes and hoods, to stay warm. Notice that you had to have a Masters to get a hood so I imagine all undergraduate students spent their time learning in a state of near hypothermia. Now we of course have heat in our colleges and universities (that is until the funding falls through) so no one actually wears their hoods. As I found out the hood isn't even designed to be worn anymore especially over that weird cardboard square hat.
But we can't let the little obstacles in life stop us from trying, now can we?
